In this episode I had the opportunity to sit down with Ron McMillan. He is a four-time New York Times best-selling co-author of Crucial Conversations, Crucial Confrontations, Influencer, and Change Anything. He knows his stuff when it comes to creating lasting change.
The interview answers a lot of questions, including:
How do you create lasting change in Elder Quorum and Relief Society?
How do you get past the Will Power Trap?
How should a bishop approach a situation where someone is dealing with addiction?
How does motivation and ability play a role in influencing long-term change?
6-Source Model of Influence

Wow…I am a newly called Elder's Quorum Pres. And I feel like I am already armed with some excellent knowledge. Thanks so mush for posting this!
I recently completed the Influencer training at work. Amazing stuff. After the first day, I spent the entire drive home thinking about how to apply it to home teaching. I have spent the last several weeks trying to make all the necessary connections. Thank you for this site and your work; it has made the tasks I have before me much easier!
Very cool! That is a great training and very applicable to home teaching. Make sure you check out the articles focused on the 6-source model and home teaching.

Maybe you already have.
As you apply those principles to home teaching please share what ideas you come up with.
I've been working my way through those posts as well. My first hurdle to overcome, though, will be convincing the EQP that there is validity in these principles. 🙂
I know it has been months but as you asked, I wanted to let you know how the application of the six source model to home teaching has been going in my quorum. In January, we reported 16.9% of families were home taught; February about 30%. We implemented the changes in March of this year and have seen a steady increase. Last month we hit an all-time high of 80%. Our quorum goal is to contact 85% of our assigned families by the end of the year so Influencer is definitely working. We have worked to re-define what constitutes a home teaching visit and have put the elders in charge of what they report (as long as they know how the family is doing). We will begin to narrow the broad definition a bit next year and work on getting a spiritual thought/message shared as often as possible with these families.
Most importantly, we have seen families who were inactive come back to church and consistent contact is now being made. I’m confident these relationships will continue to improve and results will come.
I had been working through the other articles and finally finished them (yes, it did take me several days). I've come up with a list of questions (for each source of influence) I'd like to get others' input on. Any suggestions, ideas will be appreciated.
