Glenn Wright is a Sunday School president in Saratoga Springs, UT. In this interview we discuss his focused approach to really making an impact in his ward Sunday School program. His ward is also participating in a Church pilot program to test out adjustments to the ward teaching that should be rolled out next year. Every Sunday School presidency and bishopric should listen to this episode. It’s inspiring and informative to learn about how he is magnifying his calling and to also learn about upcoming changes to the Sunday School curriculum.

Great Discussion, would’ve really liked to hear about the new program a bit more. I believe, every person involved with teaching Come, Follow Me should review this 2-part interview with Sister Elaine S. Dalton (Young Women general president), Brother Russell T. Osguthorpe (Sunday School general president) and Brother David L. Beck (Young Men general president) about the development of the program and lessons learned from the pilots. It is extremely enlightening.
The program in my experience is not run in any kind of way that it was designed. But we’re still getting over a decades-long teaching style that isn’t in any way scriptural, but has evolved into a teacher who talks for 40 minutes with ‘participation’ described as ‘reading something’

Glenn is hitting that homerun with his calling, and the new program is great!
Another example that the calling does not define the man, the MAN defines the calling. the host example of Sunday school presidents are bell ringers was a bit awkward, but I get the spirit in which it was expressed. Good job in getting this information out that Glenn did a mountain of research on.
Very interested in the new approach to gospel learning. Consider having Brother Wright back on the podcast in six months to share any insights gained from actual use of the program.
Thank you for sharing.
My concern with the new program is that scripture study (deeply understanding the context and purpose of the writings themselves) is dramatically reduced in favor of topical discussion. Proof texting will gain ground while understanding the paradoxes and complexity of scripture will be sacrificed.
This sounds awesome. Is it possible to access the “Family Manual” talked about if you’re not part of the pilot program?
Thanks so much for doing this interview! I am a huge Come, Follow Me fan. I’m looking forward to seeing what this looks like when they roll it out church wide. I’ve seen a lot of growth in the young women I’ve taught in the last 3 years. It helps them in all aspects of their lives!
Great interview. I stumbled upon it doing a google search for info on the Come, Follow Me program. It was valuable to hear from someone who is magnifying their calling as Sunday School President. As another resource, Stacie Duce writes a column the Deseret News and some of her writings deal with her calling as a Course 14 teacher using the Come, Follow Me program. Come to think of it she might be a wonderful interview for you to have. Keep up the good work.
Any updates on rolling this new program out?
