Travis Steward is the sixth of eight children raised on a small farm in Northern Utah. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and met his wife, Margaret, while attending Brigham Young University. Married since 1985, the Stewards have six children and three grandchildren. Travis has worked for the Church at the Missionary Training Center in Provo for most of his career. Travis served as Mission President of the Texas Houston Mission from 2005 to 2008. He enjoys outdoors activities, gardening and beekeeping.
After decades of feeling alone and unable to talk about his same-sex attraction, Travis was divinely compelled to open up a dialogue in 2016. Though initially a painful acknowledgement, he has come to appreciate and embrace the journey that has strengthened his family and his faith and changed his heart. Travis is involved with church leader outreach with North Star, a support community for LGBTQ members of his church. He also facilitates a weekly gay/SSA men’s support group in Utah County.
