I’m reading a book called A Whole New Mind by Daniel Pink. Great book…buy it, read it, study it.
Anyway…he brought up an interesting research point on page 58.
For instance, research by Goleman and the Hay Group has found that within organizations, the most effective leaders were funny (that is funny ha-ha, not funny strange). These leaders had their charges laughing three times more often than their managerial counterparts. But where have you seen a standardized test that measures comedic aptitude?
How often is YOUR quorum laughing with you? If they aren’t is that because you aren’t leading with your true personality? How has humor been apart of your favorite leaders?
This is a great point. And one I hadn't thought of as a leadership quality before. I think the Apostles and Prophets show us their humor on a regular basis. Based on what they show in a very formal setting, imagine how funny and fun they must be on a day-to-day basis as they lead the the church.
I still can't get over Pres. Monson's ear wiggle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IxI7oL_cNw
